What Ultra Lotto 6/58 Actually Is
Ultra Lotto 6/58 is one of the PCSO's flagship number games, and it is usually the one people mean when they say "the big lotto." You choose six numbers from 1 to 58, and if all six match the official draw in any order, you win the jackpot. That is the whole game in one sentence.
The reason it gets so much attention is the math behind it. The odds of hitting all six numbers are 1 in 40,475,358. That sounds brutal, and it is, but it is also why the top prize can climb past hundreds of millions of pesos and stay there for weeks. The minimum jackpot is set at PHP 50 million, and it rolls over every draw where nobody wins.
Draws run every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at 9:00 PM, live on PTV and the PCSO's official Facebook page.
Tickets cost PHP 20 per combination. That is the base price, and it is the same whether you buy in Metro Manila or in a provincial outlet. If you want to play more than one combination on a single ticket, you simply pay PHP 20 times the number of lines.
Picking Your Six Numbers Without Overthinking It
There is no system that beats a random draw, and any site that tells you otherwise is selling something. What you can do is pick in a way that keeps the experience fun and your spending controlled.
Three common approaches
- Quick Pick (Lucky Pick): Let the terminal choose for you. It is the fastest option, and statistically it is as good as anything you can compute by hand.
- Personal numbers: Birthdays, anniversaries, jersey numbers. Just remember that birthdays cap at 31, so you will rarely use the 32 to 58 range. That is fine, but be aware you are sharing those numbers with a lot of other players.
- Spread pattern: Some regulars deliberately mix low and high numbers, and avoid clustering everything in one decade. It does not improve your odds, but it can reduce the chance of splitting a jackpot with many co-winners.
You can also use the System Play option, where you pick seven to twelve numbers and the terminal generates every possible six-number combination from them. A System 7 gives you 7 combinations for PHP 140. A System 12 gives you 924 combinations for PHP 18,480. System Play raises your coverage, and it raises your cost just as fast, so it is not a beginner move.
How to Place a Bet at an Outlet
The process at a PCSO lotto outlet is short and mostly self-explanatory once you have done it once.
- Get a play slip from the counter. Fill in six numbers per panel using a dark pen or pencil. Shade the bubbles cleanly.
- Hand the slip to the teller and pay. A single panel is PHP 20.
- Check the printed ticket before you leave. Confirm the six numbers, the draw date, and the amount paid. Errors are almost impossible to reverse after the terminal closes the transaction.
- Sign the back of the ticket. This is the single most important habit for any lotto player. An unsigned winning ticket is a dispute waiting to happen.
You can buy for the current draw or for an advance draw, usually up to a few days ahead. Some outlets will also let you play the same numbers for multiple consecutive draws. Ask the teller if you want that, because it is not automatic.
One practical note: for jackpots above PHP 10,000, prizes are claimed at a PCSO branch or the main office, not at the outlet where you bought the ticket. Keep that in mind before you celebrate too loudly at the counter.
Checking Results and Knowing What You Won
Official results come out right after the 9:00 PM draw. You can watch the live broadcast, check the PCSO's social pages, or visit a results page that posts the winning combination along with the prize breakdown.
Ultra Lotto pays out across several tiers, and this is where a lot of first-timers get confused. Matching all six numbers wins the jackpot. Matching five wins a fixed or pari-mutuel prize, and so on down to matching three numbers, which pays a small fixed amount. The exact figures can shift slightly depending on the total sales for that draw and how many people won in each tier.
Quick reference for prize tiers
- 6 of 6: Jackpot, minimum PHP 50 million, split if there are multiple winners.
- 5 of 6: A substantial four-to-five figure prize, sometimes higher.
- 4 of 6: A few hundred to a few thousand pesos.
- 3 of 6: A small fixed prize, typically PHP 20.
Prizes above PHP 10,000 are subject to the 20% final tax on lotto winnings under the TRAIN law. A PHP 100,000 prize becomes PHP 80,000 after tax. That is not a reason to skip claiming, just something to plan around.
You have one year from the draw date to claim. After that, the prize is forfeited. Keep the ticket somewhere flat and dry, and photograph it as a backup record.
Smart Habits for Regular Players
Lotto is entertainment, not an investment plan. The sooner you internalize that, the better your experience will be.
Set a monthly budget and treat it like a movie ticket or a night out. If PHP 200 a week is comfortable, stay there. Do not chase a jackpot by buying more tickets after a loss, because the odds do not change based on how much you have already spent. Each draw is independent.
If you play with a group, put the arrangement in writing. Who paid, which numbers, what happens if you win. Group wins are one of the most common sources of lotto disputes in the Philippines, and a simple note prevents almost all of them.
Finally, check the official PCSO channels first. Screenshots and forwarded posts can carry wrong numbers, and you do not want to be the person who shows up at a branch with a ticket that never matched.
